read

I'm trying to come up with a few ideas for the non-profit WedSpag, and I'd like to tie them in with our fun WedSpag too. One of the things that is important to me is literacy, especially encouraging reading among children and families.

My uncle suggested a book called Strega Nona, and I plan to see if we can get some sort of deal with the publishers and put it in with the food and other literature that I hope to distribute to families. (Even though I've worked in social services long enough to know that anything suggesting witchcraft or magic sometimes doesn't float so well with the families we serve. You can't win at anything, so to that I say "suck it")

Anyway, would you ladies be interested in maybe starting a WedSpag bookclub? It doesn't have to be the kind where we all sit down and talk about Chapters 1-7 in a book. It can be as simple as a book exchange or something. Everyone can bring a bag of books and we can swap and share. I am pretty generous with books, and rarely keep them after I'm done reading them but I know I still have a ton of them in the basement.

Just a thought...

I have got a grocery sack filled to the brim with books I will bring up! I love book exchanging!

I'm in... but I don't want to just unload my bag of already-reads on you. I'll put together a list of the titles I've got and then if anyone wants any of 'em, I can send them on. If not, off they go to the local library booksale.

I've also got stacks of children's books in great condition, many of which are duplicate titles to what Aaron already has on his shelves. If you want any of those to add to the food/literature bundles, let me know.

If I haven't said it before, thank you for starting this. You're awesome and now I feel awesome for being a part of it.

I would totally be down with that. And I plan to get back in the swing of spagwed now that the days are longer and I'm not puking nearly as much! Hooray for that!

Strega Nona is a great children's book! Big Anthony is quite the trouble maker and Tomie DePaola has a few other books that feature him.

yes please to the reading. can we also somehow tie in sitting down with interactive toys with inner city children?

Great idea, Lora. Literacy is not only important for teaching children to read but also can offer poor, intercity city the opportunity to expand their horizons, understand other cultures and experience things they may not ever encounter in their regular lives.

I'd love to do this... I'd have to ship mine, but I have a ton I'd never read again. 'Geek Love' anyone
